A fingerprint or face terminal solves one problem a card never will: the credential cannot be handed to someone else. That matters on a gym, a stock room, a plant room or anywhere you are also using the door as a time record. It does not suit a door used by visitors or contractors, because every user has to be enrolled in person before they can pass.
Specify a fallback on every biometric door. Wet or damaged fingers, gloves on a cold site and a delivery driver with no enrolment are ordinary daily events, so a terminal that also reads a fob or takes a PIN keeps the door working. Face terminals cope better with gloves but need thought about lighting and mounting height, and both types belong indoors or in a sheltered position unless the body is rated for weather.

Only if the body is rated for it and the mounting position avoids direct sun and rain on the lens. Most face terminals are designed for a lobby or a sheltered entrance; an exposed gate is better served by a weatherproof reader with a fob or code.
Most do, and it is a common reason to fit them. Check that the terminal exports the log in a format your client's payroll can read, and tell staff clearly that the door is also a time record — that disclosure is part of the lawful basis.
