How to choose

• Capacity vs retention: match drive size to camera count, resolution and how many days of footage the site needs to retain — higher capacities (8TB, 10TB) suit larger channel counts or longer retention.
• Workload class: surveillance-rated drives (e.g. Toshiba S300, HGST) are built for continuous read/write cycles; archive drives suit lower-activity backup.
• Form factor: 3.5" SATA drives fit inside NVRs/DVRs, while portable USB drives (e.g. Verbatim Store 'n' Go) suit offloading footage for evidence or off-site backup.
